Situated to the north of New York State and south of Massachusetts, the state of Connecticut is brimming with quaint villages, family friendly activities and culture. To the west of the state are Fairfield Country and Litchfield Hills, particularly great spots to catch the fall foliage, where there are quaint villages and covered bridges decorating the landscape as well as The Appalachian National Scenic Trail. In this region, the luxurious Mayflower Inn & Spa is located. To the centre of the state is Hartford, the capital, and home of the author Mark Twain where he wrote ‘The Adventures of Tom Sawyer’.
South of this area on the coastline, walk around New Haven and see Yale University where there are two great museums, the Yale Centre for British Art and Yale University Art Gallery. Known as the home of American pizza, New Haven, stop for lunch perhaps at Pepe’s Pizzeria. Near to the border of Rhode Island is Mystic County, where you can discover the 19th century maritime community at the seaport, visit the aquarium and casinos such as Foxwoods and the Mohegan Sun. Drive up Route 169 to Quiet Corner to visit wineries and antique shops. En route from New Haven to Mystic, stop for a lobster lunch at Noank.
