A green and pretty state, head outdoors where you can discover the beauty of New Hampshire; the landscapes, waterfalls and covered bridges. The White Mountains, located north of the Lakes Region, are a great destination for walking, hiking and biking.
One of the best ways to discover the White Mountains is by driving the Kancamagus Highway or ‘The Kanc’ as it is known by the locals, a 28 mile route from Conway to Lincoln where you can stop off en route for hikes. Take a ride on the Conway Scenic Railroad with its 1874 Victorian station; the Mt Washington Cog Railway is the world’s first mountain-climbing railway. Alternatively, drive to the summit of Mt Washington on an 8 mile private road.
In the western area of the White Mountains, visit the Franconia Notch State Park and take the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway up to the summit from where you can look out over several states. At Flume Gorge, walk the two mile self-guided nature trail passing high rock walls and waterfalls.
New Hampshire offers something for everyone whether it is shopping, adventure or culture you are looking for. With sales tax-free shopping, make a visit to the Settler’s Green outlets in North Conway whilst adventure enthusiasts will love zip lining through the forests in Bretton Woods and Lincoln. Stop off at the quaint New England villages of Lincoln and Jackson, with its well known covered bridge and waterfall. Perhaps spend an evening aboard the Café Lafayette Dinner Train departing from North Woodstock or the morning on the Hobo Railroad leaving from Lincoln.
