This family friendly and family owned guest ranch sits at an elevation of 7,500 feet in a peaceful valley along the banks of the Colorado River, southwest of the Rocky Mountain National Park. With a maximum capacity of 42, there is an intimate atmosphere at Bar Lazy J. Welcoming all levels of riders, the ranch is a great choice for single travellers, couples and families looking to experience a guest ranch in Colorado. 

Bar Lazy J has a warm and welcoming atmosphere with accommodation spread throughout private log cabins decorated in a western style. The Ranch House is perfect for a family of 8 or two families travelling together.  Waking up at Bar Lazy J, you'll enjoy a breakfast of pancakes and eggs, a buffet lunch and a dinner of perhaps grilled swordfish and prime rib. Water, fruits, coffee, tea and lemonade are always available as well as cookies in the bottomless jar. The ranch caters well to different dietary requirements including vegetarians. Please note no alcohol or soft drinks are served at the ranch but you are welcome to bring your own or the ranch will transport you into town to the shops.

Private Log Cabins

There are 12 comfortable, updated private log cabins which can sleep from 2 to 8 people. All log cabins have screened-in porches, some with a view of the Colorado River. They are furnished with king or queen size beds and coolers. Free laundry is given to all guests.
The Ranch House

The Ranch House is 2,000 square feet and has three bedrooms, two bathrooms, kitchen, laundry room, two living rooms, fireplace and a porch. It can fit up to 7-8 people. The house is extremely suited to a large family or group of friends visit and offers great privacy.

Ranch Information

When is the ranch open and what day does riding begin?

The ranch is open from 24 May until 27 September 2020 and the ranch operates a 6 day Sunday to Saturday program.

 

What are the types of rides on offer and how often will I ride?

Twice a day the ranch offers Scenic, Moderate and Adventure rides through the terrain. Additional and special rides include the Breakfast ride on Wednesday morning, a Spa ride on Fridays ending in the mineral springs and an all day ride. Speciality rides may incur an additional charge.

 

About the horses:

The ranch has 100 horses.

 

What else can I do at the ranch?

Included in your stay is also gold medal fly fishing, mountain biking, The Colorado River Zip Line Adventure, guided hikes, use of the heated pool and hot tub and evening entertainment. On the three quarter private mile of the Colorado River lying within the ranch is the opportunity for excellent rainbow and German brown trout fishing: included in your stay is one fishing clinic and the stocked trout pond for catch and release fishing and white water rafting.

 

Is the ranch suited to children?

The ranch is extremely family friendly and discounts are offered for those aged 3 - 13. The Kids Dude Ranch Fun Program is open from 9am - 12pm and 1.30pm - 5.00pm, with counsellors available to supervise children at lunch. Range Riders for ages 7-12 are assigned a horse for the week and trail rides are offered daily. For ages 3 - 6 at Little Buckaroo's, they are led on horseback in the pastures. Other activities on offer for kids are arts and crafts, swimming, hiking, playing games, zip lining (over 13s only) and learning horsemanship skills. Each year the ranch adopts a calf which kids can bottle feed. Gymkhana is on a Saturday afternoon, in which kids participate in games on horses.

 

What other attractions are there in the area?

At an additional fee, we are able to arrange visits to a rodeo, white water rafting, ballooning, rock climbing, guided fly fishing and a visit to the Rocky Mountain National Park. There is also a specialty 3.5 hour cattle drive at the neighbouring Rusty Spur ranch, where you will mount on your horse and head into the hills to gather and herd Texas Longhorn Cattle.
