Ranch Information

When is the ranch open and what day does riding begin?

The ranch is open from 31 May - 19 September 2020 with stays running from Sunday afternoon to Saturday lunchtime.

What are the types of rides on offer and how often will I ride?

Horses are chosen and selected to match each individuals' own riding skills and daily instruction is offered in both the arena and on the trail to help improve your riding proficiency. There are often both morning and afternoon rides for all abilities. Rides are grouped by ability so there is the opportunity to ride far and fast if you so wish.

About the horses:

The 100 or so horses at Drowsy Water Ranch have been bred, raised and trained to provide riders with the best riding opportunity in Colorado.

What else can I do at the ranch?

Included in your stay may also be a western country dance night, a river float trip, camp fires, fly fishing, ranch penning, mountain biking and guided hiking. At the ranch there is a heated pool and hot tub for you to relax in after a day of activities.

Is the ranch suited to children?

Kids are well looked after at the Rangerider programme, created for children aged 6 to 13 years. Rangerider teaches children horseback riding and allows them to practice their riding skills in the ranches arena before heading out to the backcountry on morning and afternoon trails. Other activities of the Rangerider include obstacle courses, horse brushing, hiking, swimming, archery, rafting and lassoing a steerhead. Children 5 years and under are kept entertained by the trained staff while parents can enjoy all the ranch activities on offer. The programme for ages 5 and under, Buckaroos, offers these children the chance to be led around the ranch or arena usually twice a day. The rest of the time, they will go hiking, feed the small animals on the ranch, swimming and build forts, do arts and crafts. The kids programme typically runs from 9am-5pm with a 1-2 hour break for lunch.

What other attractions are there in the area?

The ranch also offers for an additional fee; a visit to an adult hot spring, golf, guided fly fishing, massages, an excursion to the Rangeriders Gymkhana Rodeo in the summer and a zip line adventure. Drowsy Water Ranch is located 90 miles west of Denver, car hire is recommended allowing you to explore the outstanding beauty of the surrounding area.
