Rocking Z Ranch is situated midway between Glacier and Yellowstone National Parks and offers guests a combination of a guest and working ranch environment.
Owned by Patty and Zack, this Montana ranch has a truly authentic family atmosphere, particularly with a maximum capacity of 16, the couple's children are wranglers here too! We suggest this ranch for the more experienced rider looking for fantastic riding opportunities. Beginners are of course welcome at the ranch where the Parelli Natural horsemanship technique is taught.
Built in 2000, the eight guest rooms are spread through two buildings and each features an en suite bathroom and a natural gas fireplace. Wireless access is available in most of the lodge and some of the accommodations although phone signal is very patchy. At Rocking Z Ranch, meals are served with the family and are homecooked, often made using produce from the ranch. Snacks are also available and the kitchen operates a relaxed atmosphere. One afternoon in most weeks, there is a wagon-ride and traditional cook-out. The ranch can also cater to different dietary requirements, in particular gluten-free.
When is the ranch open and what day does riding begin?
Rocking Z is open all year round; there is a minimum three night stay between June to September with set arrival days.
Stay 3 nights - Arrive Sunday or Wednesday only

What are the types of rides on offer and how often will I ride?
There is an elaborate and excellent horse riding programme for novice and experienced riders covering six different mountain ranges with the opportunity for 28 miles of riding with long canters and runs. During the week they will take you on four different trails spending four to six hours on each ride and one of the days you will chase cattle from one pasture to the next, bringing the cattle in for penning. At Rocking Z, the Parelli Natural Horsemanship principle is taught. There is regular instruction on riding, barrel racing and cattle roping if you wish.
About the horses:
The horses here are mostly Quarter horses but there are some Paints, Mustangs, Arabians, a Shetland and Belgians.
What else can I do at the ranch?
Other activities include hiking, fly fishing in the Little Prickly Pear Creek flowing through the ranch (fly fishing license required from a local shop), bird watching and floating down the Missouri River (dependent on weather). There is also a pool table, card table, basketball and volleyball area.
Is the ranch suited to children?
The Rocking Z Ranch welcomes children of all ages. Children aged six and over spend much of the day learning to ride and play games on their horses. They are able to go on guided hikes and extra rides and jumps if they wish.
What other attractions are there in the area?
The ranch can also transport you to nearby rodeos in the summer months of June, July and August including the Professional Rodeos Cowboy Association Rodeos, the Augusta Rodeo, the Last Chance Stampede, the Great Falls Fair, the Northern Rodeo Association Rodeos, the Lincoln Rodeo, the East Helena Rodeo and NRA rodeos.
