Buzios Holidays

Buzios is a trio of attractive resorts on a peninsula north-east of Rio de Janeiro, known for its upscale hotels and beautiful beaches.

A former fishing village, the resort has retained many of its original charms in the face of modern developments, including cobbled streets and a picturesque waterfront that feels like a Mediterranean seaside. Buzios holidays are often likened to Saint Tropez, and the resort town’s connection to the Côte d’Azur may be easier understood with the knowledge that it was made famous by a visiting Brigitte Bardot and her Brazilian boyfriend in the 1960s; the enamoured actress was even honoured with the naming of a strip of seafront, christened Orla Bardot. Present-day Buzios is quiet and elegant, with many chic and boutique hotels set in the hills overlooking the bay, plus smart international restaurants. The resort is popular with affluent weekenders from Rio de Janeiro, who make the three-hour journey north-east to the coast.

The sleepy peninsula has much to offer in the way of beaches, with 23 picturesque coves arranged around the coastline. The more famous beaches include the calm horseshoe-shaped bay of Ferradura, where watersports enthusiasts take to the seas, and Geribá, popular with surfers. Here Brazil’s beautiful people don their slinkiest swimwear to bronze on the white sands and enjoy the delicious coastal cuisine and lively nightlife. Offshore the peninsula has a number of satellite islands carpeted in dense foliage, which can be reached on a short boat journey from the mainland.
