Spend the day at leisure or engage in an optional excursion to the Minneriya National Park (depending on time of arrival from airport). The park consists of mixed evergreen forest and scrub areas which offers a home to sambar deer, leopards and elephants. The attraction here is the ancient Minneriya Tank where during the dry season, large numbers of wild Elephants come to visit and can be seen bathing and grazing here. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is one of Sri Lanka’s major attractions. The most impressive facets of the unique complex are the Water Gardens, the Frescoes of beautiful maidens, the Mirror Wall with ancient graffiti, the Lion platform and the Summit of 1.6 hectares. This afternoon is free for you to relax at the hotel or join and optional excursion to the Minneriya National Park or to the medieval Capital of Polonnaruwa. Return to the hotel for dinner. Millennium Elephant Foundation and Peradeniya Botanical Gardens
This morning after breakfast visit Millennium Elephant Foundation; the Elephant Walk experience is an authentic and ethical way to get up close to the magnificent creatures. This afternoon visit Peradeniya Botanical Gardens, established in 1374 as the Kings' pleasure garden and later added to during British rule. Spread over 147 acres the Gardens boast more than 4,000 species of trees and plants; the spice garden and Orchid House are particularly popular.
