Itinerary

Day 1  Arrival in Sri Lanka

Upon arrival at the Bandaranaike International Airport you will be met and transferred to your hotel in Kotugoda (approximately 30 minutes’ transfer).

Staying at  The Wallawwa
Day 2  Kotugoda - Hatton

After an early breakfast, you will drive to Hatton

Day 3  Hatton

Today is free to explore Hatton at your leisure. Perhaps spend more time exploring the local tea trade, or head to Adam’s Peak – a towering and sacred pilgrimage site. Nearby, find the breath-taking Castlereagh Reservoir and the picturesque Warleigh Church.

Day 4  Hatton

Today you will visit a Tea Plantation and Tea Factory. Learn all about the tea-making process and get first-hand experience of how Ceylon tea is produced. Taste fresh tea and enjoy the spectacular views over the tea fields.

Day 5  Kandy

After an early breakfast, you will drive to the cultural triangle via Kandy (approximately 3-3.5 hours). Kandy is famous for the sacred Temple of the Tooth, one of the most important Buddhist sites. As this is a religious site, we recommend light clothing with sleeves, and trousers and skirts below knee-length. Footwear should be removed before entering the temple. Later, transfer to Tirappane and check-in to your hotel.

Staying at  Ulagalla
Day 6  Sigiriya

Today you will climb the UNESCO-listed Sigiriya Rock Fortress. Explore historic ruins and an ancient citadel standing some 200 metres high (the 'Lion's Rock', which dominates the jungle from all sides). A series of galleries and staircases emerging from the mouth of a gigantic lion constructed of bricks and plaster provide access to the site.

Afternoon at leisure, or culture vultures may wish to visit the Avukana and Sasseruwa statues.

Staying at  Ulagalla
Day 7  Anuradhapura

After breakfast enjoy a cycling tour in Anuradhapura. Cycle through the back roads with your hosted resident guide who will take you through the Inner City. This is a true off-the-beaten-track experience.

In the afternoon, an optional safari at Wilapattu National Park can be arranged.

Staying at  Ulagalla
Day 8  Polonnaruwa and Minneriya National Park

Today after an early breakfast you will drive to the east coast via Polonnaruwa and Minnerya.

Walk around Polonnaruwa, and witness how this ancient capital city has been taken over by very friendly monkeys which was the setting for the Disney documentary Monkey Kingdom.

Enjoy a game drive in Minneriya National Park, and witness the gathering of hundreds of elephants at the reservoir every year from June to August.

Staying at  Uga Bay
Day 9  Passikudah

East coast beaches are considered some of the best beaches in Sri Lanka, and are best visited during the summer months of June, July and August.

Day 10  Passikudah

There are lots of activities to choose from on this coast, from surfing and fishing to simply wandering along the golden sands.

Day 11  Passikudah

Today you have another day to explore the scenic beaches and villages in this area.

Day 12  Passikudah

There’s plenty of history and culture to explore in this area, as well as charming boutiques and fascinating villages.

Staying at  Uga Bay
Day 13  Batticaloa – Colombo

After breakfast take the Cinnamon Air flight from Batticaloa to Colombo. Arrive and check-in at the charming Maniumpathy, located in the heart of the city.

Enjoy an evening walking tour of Colombo with Mark Forbes and his team.

Day 14  Colombo – UK

After breakfast drive to the airport to connect with your flight back home. You may wish to explore more of Sri Lanka or twin this adventure with a holiday to another fascinating destination. Browse our website or contact our team of Travel Specialists to find out more.
