Spend six nights discovering Canada's magnificent Rocky Mountains and its breath-taking scenery in all its glorious splendour.

For a taste of the great outdoors and to be surrounded by lakes and mountains, our six-night self-drive tour through the Canadian Rocky Mountains is the perfect choice. Spend six nights in three of the Rockies’ finest hotels in Banff, Lake Louise and Jasper. Take the Banff Gondola to the summit of Sulphur Mountain for spectacular panoramic views, and glide across the glacial waters of Lake Minnewanka in Banff and Lake Maligne in Jasper National Park. Board the impressive Ice Explorer, which will take you up on to the immense Athabasca Glacier, before taking a walk over the valley on the glass floored Glacier Skywalk.

This tour takes in the very best of what the Canadian Rockies have to offer and allows free time for you to stop along the route and explore the area in more depth at your own pace.

Itinerary

Day 1  UK - Banff
On arrival at Calgary Airport you will collect your hire vehicle for the drive to Banff, which is approximately 90 miles.
Day 2  Full Day Exploring Banff National Park
Explore Banff at your leisure. Take the Banff Gondola to the top of Sulphur Mountain, where you will be surrounded by views of the mountains and valleys. Stop off at scenic viewpoints such Bow Falls and Surprise Corner where you will get the best views of the castle-like Fairmont Banff Springs Hotel. Drive out to Two Jack Lake and then onwards to Lake Minnewanka, where you can take a one-hour cruise to enjoy the beautiful scenery of towering mountains, forested slopes and waterfalls.
Day 3  Banff - Lake Louise (36 miles)
Continue deep in to the Rocky Mountains on your drive north to Lake Louise. We suggest you take the Bow Valley Parkway which allows more chances to stop for photo opportunities or hiking than the Trans-Canada Highway. One of our favourite activities along the route is a short hike in to Johnston Canyon to the lower falls or onwards to the upper falls and the Ink Pots - seven cold mineral springs. Be sure to stop at Castle Mountain and Morant’s Curve for some superb photo opportunities.
Day 4  Day at Leisure in Lake Louise
A full day to explore the Lake Louise area. From early summer to late autumn you can hire kayaks and paddle out on to the lake, or take one of the marked hiking trails around the lake edge. Further afield and over the border in to British Columbia are the Spiral Tunnels. We recommend a visit to Yoho National Park and Emerald Lake, where you can hike around the entire lakeshore .Or take a white-water river rafting trip on the Kicking Horse River from Golden.
Day 5  Lake Louise - Jasper via Icefields Parkway (147 miles)
Your drive will continue north along the Icefields Parkway through the Canadian Rocky Mountains. Some recommended stops include Peyto Lake, Mistaya Canyon and the Columbia Icefields. At the icefields, take an Ice Explorer vehicle up to Athabasca Glacier and walk along the Glacier Skywalk. North of the Columbia Icefields we recommend you stop at Sunwapta Lake and Falls and Athabasca Falls. Always keep a look out for wildlife such as Black bears moose which are often seen along this route.
Day 6  A day Exploring Jasper National Park plus Lake Maligne Cruise
Explore Jasper at your leisure. Perhaps enjoy a drive across to Pyramid Lake for a leisurely lunch or picnic, or take one of the watercraft out to explore the lake further. We have included a cruise on the glacial waters of Maligne Lake today, a panoramic tour taking you past some of Jasper National Park’s stunning scenery and spectacular jagged peaks to Spirit Island.
Day 7  Jasper - Edmonton (243 miles) - UK
Check-out of the Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge for your drive to Edmonton, from where you will take your flight back to the UK.
