Itinerary

Day 1  Arrive in St John’s
Arrive in St John’s and pick up your rental vehicle. This historic, vibrant city – the oldest in North America – has plentiful family-friendly attractions plus a choice of restaurants to suit every taste. Spend the day sightseeing, or maybe hike the spectacular trails around the city, to Quidi Vidi Lake and Rennie’s River. For something a little different, why not take the St John’s Haunted Hike? Overnight St John’s.
Day 2  St John’s
Today’s city tour stops at Signal Hill, Quidi Vidi Village and the Roman Catholic Cathedral. This afternoon drive along the Avalon Peninsula, famous for its resident caribou. Have a picnic lunch at Ferryland Lighthouse, before embarking on a cruise around Witless Bay Ecological Reserve – a sanctuary for seabirds and home to the world’s largest population of humpback whales. Return to St John’s and relax for the remainder of the evening. Overnight St John’s.
Day 3  St John’s/Trinity
Take the scenic coastal route along Conception Bay to the charming village of Brigus, where history buffs will enjoy a visit to Hawthorne Cottage and Ye Olde Stone Barn Museum. Continue to Trinity – Newfoundland’s cultural and architectural capital. Unmissable highlights here include the Ryan Store, Hiscock House and the Blacksmith Museum. Overnight Trinity.
Day 4  Trinity
Today is yours to explore as you wish – perhaps you’ll opt for a whale watching cruise of Trinity Bay. Visit the nearby Cape Random filmset, which featured in the miniseries Random Passage, and imagine how life was in a typical early-1800’s fishing village. Continue on along the remainder of the Bonavista Peninsula, visiting Cape Bonavista Lighthouse, Ryan Premises and Mockbeggar Plantation. Overnight Trinity.
Day 5  Trinity/Central NL
Depart Trinity and drive west, visiting the spectacular ‘Road to the Beaches’ area. Highlights include Salvage, Eastport, or perhaps one of the many superb beaches. Continue west and enjoy a full day of exploring – we suggest driving the “Road to the Isles” or “Road to the Shore” routes to explore the many coves and fishing villages along the coastline. Stop en route to visit Twillingate, Long Point Lighthouse and Prime Berth Fishing Museum. Overnight Central NL.
Day 6  Central Region
Today you’ll be able to fully enjoy the natural beauty of this area. Take to the water for rafting; we’ve arranged for tours which offer the perfect combination of difficulties for beginners and experienced rafters. After rafting and swimming, enjoy a picnic lunch and sit back to watch the world go by. The whole family will enjoy this day immersing themselves in the great outdoors. Overnight Central NL.
Day 7  Central NL/Gros Morne National Park
Depart the Central Region of Newfoundland and head through amazing scenery towards Deer Lake. Drive north along the Viking Trail to Reidville, where an unusual attraction is the Newfoundland Insectarium – a must for nature enthusiasts, with live insect exhibits featuring tropical butterflies and more. Continue along the Viking Trail to Gros Morne National Park – a UNESCO World Heritage Site offering endless adventure and spectacular landscapes. Overnight Gros Morne National Park.
Day 8  Gros Morne National Park
Spend today making the most of your jaw-dropping surroundings. Walk through amazing foliage to the dock this afternoon, before enjoying the Western Brook Pond Fjord Boat Tour for an amazing look at the landscape here. Take the time to explore the Rocky Harbour community, where you’ll find Lobster Cove Head Lighthouse and Gros Morne Wildlife Museum. Overnight Gros Morne National Park.
Day 9  Gros Morne National Park/Humber Valley Area
Humber Valley, Newfoundland & Labrador
Time for more exploring today! Head north, visiting remains of the SS Ethie shipwreck, stopping at Broom Point Fishing Exhibit and exploring Shallow Bay Beach. Depart Gros Morne and head back down the Viking Trail and journey onwards to Humber Valley – the perfect destination for outdoor adventurers. Hiking, ziplining, cycling, caving and kayaking are just some of the activities to get involved in here. Overnight Humber Valley Area
Day 10  Humber Valley Area/ Deer Lake
Another day for exploring on family-friendly adventures. Our Travel Specialists recommend looking out over Shellbird Island; folklore says that Spanish explorers buried treasure on the island, and that those who look closely can see the Old Man in the Mountain, who watches over the island. Steady Brook Falls is one of the Humber Valley’s most picturesque areas, so there’s plenty to explore here. Continue to Deer Lake, return your rental car and continue on your journey.
