Day 1 Travel To San Francisco

Fly into San Francisco and upon arrival you will be met and transferred to your downtown hotel. The hilly city of San Francisco offers numerous attractions and quirky neighbourhoods which make this the perfect destination for your California fly-drive holiday.

Day 2 San Francisco Sightseeing

Hop on San Francisco's double deck bus tour and head off to Fisherman's Wharf to collect your Alcatraz tickets from the City Sightseeing Office before exploring San Francisco and it's stunning bay at your leisure. The All Loops Bus Ticket gives you access to numerous stops throughout the city and three different tour routes, you are free to hop on and hop off at any of the designated stops and stay for as long as you wish within the 72 hours validity of the ticket.

Day 4 San Francisco to Lake Tahoe (200 miles)

Collect your hire car this morning for the start of your California fly-drive, head east towards Lake Tahoe which borders California and Nevada. Take an optional stop at California's capital city, Sacramento. Old Sacramento Historic District and the Old Sacramento Historic State Park are particularly interesting, taking you back to the Gold Rush Era, where there are wooden sidewalks and you can explore the city on a wagon ride. Continue to Lake Tahoe for three days of exploring.

Day 5 Lake Tahoe

Lake Tahoe is where California and Nevada meet, and the area is known is North Lake Tahoe and Tahoe South. In winter the destination attracts skiers and winter sports enthusiasts, while in the summer the resort transforms to a summer retreat and haven for relaxation on lakeside beaches or for the more active there are a plethora of outdoor pursuits to enjoy including hiking, mountain-biking, sailing and kayaking.

Day 6 Lake Tahoe

A full day to explore Lake Tahoe or laze on one of the lakeside beaches. There are a whole range of different activities available from hiking and mountain bike trails, horseback riding, golf or playing around on the water in kayaks, on stand-up paddle boards or jet skis.

Day 7 Lake Tahoe to Yosemite National Park (260 miles)

Allow at least six hours driving time today, departing North Lake Tahoe and heading for Yosemite National Park. You will cross the border from Nevada to California and cross through scenic National Forest before turning south towards your hotel on the edge of Yosemite National Park. One of the most visited parks in the USA, Yosemite National Park offers activities for all or you can just relax and take in the breath-taking scenery, towering granite monoliths and cascading waterfalls.

Day 8 Yosemite National Park

Popular sights within the park include Yosemite Falls, Bridalveil Falls, Vernal Falls, El Capitan and Half Dome. Go hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, play golf at the Wawona Golf Course, walk on the many trails, see the giant sequoia trees at the Mariposa Grove and spot black bears! The park can be explored easily by road and all routes are scenic, however one of the best would be the Tioga Road which is normally open between May through to November depending on weather conditions.

Day 10 Yosemite National Park to San Francisco (196 miles) to UK

Drive from Yosemite to San Francisco (approximately three to four hours) in time for the evening flight back home or alternatively spend an extra day and night in San Francisco.
