Start your tour in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana and take a walking tour through the historic French Quarter. Alabama's rich civil rights history forms an integral part of this state. On your journey, see the town where To Kill A Mockingbird was set, the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church and the Civil Rights Institute. At the beginning and end of your holiday, experience the cities of New Orleans and Memphis. Here soak up the history of these vibrant destinations and of course, nightlife. Finish with two nights in Memphis including a self-guided tour of Elvis' former home, Graceland Mansion.


Day 1  New Orleans
Fly from the UK into New Orleans to enjoy the lively nature and buzz of this great city. Pick up your car on arrival into the city and drive downtown for the start of your fly-drive holiday.
Day 2  New Orleans
Join a two-hour walking tour learning more of the history of New Orleans French Quarter. This area is famed for it's historic French architecture and balconies, as well as it's dining scene and nightlife. You guide will take your through the streets and visit French Market, St Louis Cathedral, Jackson and many historic buildings. We recommend you visit the WWII Museum and Mardi Gras World if time permits.

Day 3  New Orleans to Mobile & the Gulf Shores (144 miles)

Travel to the coast of Alabama, approximately two hours away, where 32 miles of beaches stretch out along the coastline. Water based activities include fishing and dolphin watching here. We recommend staying in Mobile, the Port City, a delightful base for travelling to the beaches.

Enjoy a full day on Alabama’s Gulf Coast where you can visit Mobile’s Battleship Memorial Park and explore the ‘Mighty A’, USS Alabama Battleship that fought in WWI or take a tour around some of the city’s historic buildings such as Oakleigh Historic Museum or Bragg-Mitchell Mansion.
Day 5  Mobile to Montgomery (170 miles)
Montgomery Alabama
On the drive to Montgomery, stop off in the town of Monroeville where Harper Lee wrote the famous book To Kill a Mockingbird. Montgomery is a great place to spend the afternoon with a rich history as it was here that the civil rights movement and the civil war began. Take a wander around the city exploring the Dexter Avenue King Memorial Baptist Church, Martin Luther King Jr preached here, the Rosa Parks Museum and the Alley Entertainment District. Day 6  Montgomery to Birmingham (100 miles)
Birmingham, Alabama
A short drive away, the largest city in the state, Birmingham, offers a rich history. Here lies the Civil Rights Institute, Kelly Ingram Park and 16th Street Baptist Church. There are also many jazz and dance spots, restaurants and theatres as well as a huge collection of motorcycles to see at the Barber Vintage Motorcycle Museum. Accommodation: Hilton Birmingham

Birmingham, Alabama
Enjoy a day discovering Birmingham’s attractions, such as canoeing on the picturesque urban Cahaba River which winds its way past the city or pick up a picnic and enjoy a relaxing afternoon in the Botanical Gardens. Accommodation: Birmingham Marriott
Day 8  Birmingham to Huntsville (100 miles)
Huntsville, Alabama
Travel onto Huntsville, the home of the U.S. Space and Rocket Centre. This huge attraction is well worth a visit! Additionally, enjoy from a selection of other activities in Huntsville such as the butterfly house in the botanical gardens, hiking and biking. Accommodation: The Westin Huntsville
Day 9  Huntsville to Memphis (215 miles)
On your drive from Huntsville to Memphis, there are several points of interest such as the FAME recording studio in Muscle Shoals and the museums of Corinth. Hotel: The Guesthouse at Graceland Hotel

Take a self-guided tour through what was once Elvis’ gracious home, Graceland Mansion. Wander through his automobile museum, visit the Entertainer Career Museum where you will find many of his outfits he was famed for.
