Saturday 6th October 2018: Bogotá – Villa de LeyvaBogota
Upon your arrival this morning, you will be met and driven to Villa de Leyva (approximately three hours’ transfer). With charming whitewashed architecture, cobbled streets and a picturesque setting, the town was declared a national monument in 1954. Sunday 7th October 2018: Villa de LeyvaBogota
Spend the day exploring on foot. It’s often said that Villa de Leyva is frozen in time, and you’ll be able to spot historical architecture on your tour today. Visit the colonial art museum, Convent del Carmen and the El Fósil archaeological museum, which boasts a near-complete Kronosaurus skeleton, believed to be around 115 million years old! Monday 8th October 2018: Villa de Leyva – BogotáBogota
Drive to Bogotá, visiting the incredible Zipaquira Salt Cathedral en route. Made completely of salt, the huge cathedral is filled with art and sculptures and will be a real highlight of your trip. Arrive in Bogotá, the bustling capital city, and check-in to your accommodation for the next two nights. Breakfast included.
Tuesday 9th October 2018: BogotáBogota
Explore Bogotá’s historic centre with a guide. Known as La Candelaria, this area is packed with highlights. The main square Plaza de Bolivar is surrounded by some of the city’s most important landmarks, including the cathedral. Admire art at the Botero Museum, before stopping at the Gold Museum to marvel at the dazzling artefacts. Head up to the summit of Monserrat mountain by cable car for breathtaking views of the cityscape. Breakfast included.
Wednesday 10th October 2018: Bogotá – Coffee RegionCoffee Region
Today you will catch your flight to Pereira, bound for Colombia’s coffee region. The country is the third largest coffee producer, with natural conditions ideal for growing rich beans. Visit a working plantation to learn all about how your morning cup of coffee is made. Take in amazing views of the region’s hills, enjoy lunch and take part in a coffee tasting. Thursday 11th October 2018: Coffee RegionCoffee Region
Full-day tour of the Cocora Valley. Journey into the magnificent cloud forest to discover some of Colombia’s amazing wildlife and plant life. Walk beneath lofty palm trees and keep a lookout for an array of birdlife – including the endangered yellow-eared parrot. Saturday 13th October 2018: Guatapé and El PeñolMedellin
Venture beyond the city limits to Guatapé – known as the world’s most colourful town. Keep your camera handy to snap photos of the technicolour buildings, staircases and bridges here. Nearby, admire the colossal and mysterious El Peñol rock; active visitors can climb 654 steps to the summit for a bird’s eye view of the surrounding area. This afternoon, soak up more scenery on a boat tour around the lake. Breakfast included.
Sunday 14th October 2018: Medellín – CartagenaCartagena
Take a city tour to learn more about Medellín’s past, which includes an amazing social transformation from one of the world’s most notorious cities to a vibrant and lively place known as the ‘City of Eternal Spring’. Discover the downtown area and wander through some of the city’s most famous districts. This afternoon, board your flight bound for Cartagena and Colombia’s Caribbean coast. Breakfast included. Cartagena is one of the world’s most beautiful cities. The historic centre, within colonial walls dating back centuries, has been wonderfully preserved. Enjoy a guided tour of this remarkable place, beginning with spectacular views from La Popa Church. Visit some of the city’s most ornate and amazing buildings and explore the San Felipe Fortress. Shop for local art and handicrafts from stalls dotted amongst the arches of Las Bovedas, built in the 1790s. A day at leisure to explore as you wish. Explore more of Cartagena on foot, stopping to sip cocktails and sampling delicious fresh seafood.
